As a partner of the Rijksmuseum since 1998, the VriendenLoterij also contributes an annual sum for new acquisitions.

VriendenLoterij annual contribution

The VriendenLoterij is the cultural lottery of the Netherlands. Participants in the lottery have the chance to win prizes while at the same time supporting all forms of culture in the Netherlands. They also receive a VIP card, which grants free entry to the Rijksmuseum.

Each year, the VriendenLoterij donates at least 40% of participants’ contributions to dozens of cultural organisations - from windmills to concerts and from festivals to museums - as well as to many charities, clubs, and associations in the fields of welfare and sports. Thanks to its participants, the VriendenLoterij was able to donate a total of €160,365,370 in 2025.

Together with the Mauritshuis, the Van Gogh Museum and the Kröller-Müller Museum, the Rijksmuseum receives a joint annual contribution of more than €9 million to support acquisitions. Thanks to lottery players who specifically purchase a Rijksmuseum ticket, schoolchildren from all corners of the Netherlands can rely on free bus transport. This enables the Rijksmuseum to continue pursuing its ambition of letting every child see The Night Watch.
