De levenstrap van Napoleon. Beginnend links onderaan als Corsicaanse knaap werkt hij zich op tot generaal, consul en tenslotte bovenaan op zijn hoogtepunt tot keizer. Daarna gaat het trapafwaarts met nederlagen in Spanje, Moskou en Duitsland (Leipzig) in 1813. Onderaan is door een boog Napoleon te zien verbannen op het eiland Elba, 1814.
